Letter from our Senior League President - Larry Barra

Dear Majors Managers and Graduating 12-Year-Old Players

Senior League is the next exciting step in your children’s baseball career. In addition to welcoming you, I want to explain what awaits your children in Senior League and make you aware of the options and possibilities before you.

Let me start with the baseball field and game itself. As a player in Senior League, you will now play on the same size field as Major League Baseball Players (90’ bases). We are now setting up a Fall 2008 intramural season played on 75’ bases which will be a good transition to the 90’ bases next year. Please contact me for further details regarding our new Fall program. You will also experience all the same rules and characteristics of real baseball. For example, leading, stealing, pick-offs, running on dropped 3rd strikes and more, are now part of the game.

As an incoming 13-year-old, East Meadow Senior League offers an exciting and competitive intramural program for all registered players. This program is similar to the one you are participating in right now in Little League. Complete with playoffs and other awards, it’s a great way to make the transition to Senior League. Please take a walk over to the Pony Field after one of your games and watch the older boys in action. Here you can play with and against the friends you’ve made in Little League. We combine the new Senior League 13-year-olds and the returning experienced 14 year olds. We presently have intramural teams from other nearby towns playing in our league, including Plainview and Westbury, adding the excitement of a traveling environment without the expense, long distance travel and extreme competitiveness of travel team baseball. The Senior League season will start early April 2009 and ends in late June.

For those players and managers who are interested, we offer the Mustangs, an extremely competitive 13-year-old travel team. As a Mustang, you will represent East Meadow and play against highly skilled teams from other towns and also participate in tournaments that are held in and out of New York. The present 13-year-old Mustang team is playing in “Babe Ruth”, a competitive league. Open tryouts for next year’s team will be held in the early Spring ’09. You will be notified in the future with additional information about the tryouts. The older Mustang teams compete in a very competitive Connie Mack and National Junior Leagues.

To be considered for the Mustangs, registration and participation in our intramural program is required. Registration will take place commencing in December ’09.
Please look for the application in our Fall Dugout News Letter. Registration for the Fall 2009 13-year-old intramural season will occur in July ’09.

As you can see, we offer a complete program for all levels. We welcome all Major Managers to continue to be active in the Senior League. I hope that I have answered any questions you may have and that you choose to continue to play baseball with East Meadow Senior League. I

Sincerely,
Larry Barra, President
East Meadow Senior League
